Composition: Each gram of Elicasal ointment contains:
mometasone furoate 1 mg (0.1% w/w) + salicylic acid 50 mg (5% w/w), in a suitable ointment base.
MOMETASONE + SALICYLIC ACID belongs to the class of "dermatological agents" primarily used to treat skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis. Eczema is a condition in which the skin becomes red, itchy and inflamed due to external factors such as soap, dyes, or other irritants. Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease (the immune system attacks healthy cells), in which the skin becomes scaly, swollen and itchy.
Mometasone + salicylic acid is a combination of two medicines: mometasone and salicylic acid. Mometasone belongs to the class of corticosteroids and has anti-inflammatory, immunosuppressive and antiproliferative (inhibit cell growth) properties. It inhibits the production of prostaglandins (the chemical messengers that cause skin redness, swelling and itching). Salicylic acid enhances the absorption of mometasone. It is a keratolytic drug (smooths, separates and exfoliates the skin layer), works to break down keratin clumps, removes dead skin cells, and smoothes the skin. It is also a topical anti-inflammatory and antibacterial agent.
